Number one: If you have the money, get a TM or a CA. You will get a return on your investment...that being said... I've had a echo 1 for about a month and a half, still holds up well. They haven't been on the market long enough to really tell for sure about the long term durability. But, I've been impressed enough to look into the g36 next. Now the UTG m14 is really rock solid...ask some of the Steel City guys about my m14 last weekend! I reviewed it if you wanna look. I expect the gun to be a good investment, as the parts are REALLY solid for a china clone. I know several of my teammates still own their UTG's (mp5's and whatnot's). My limited research has shown that the dreaded wiring problem that UTG used to have is a thing of the past. So far, both guns have given me great returns...but I've only had them about a month. Both have been heavily used in that time though. Now, do you plan on using the Echo as a starter platform? (i.e. will you be upgrading heavily, or more of a if it breaks I'll fix it approach?) my friend likes the echo1 m14, i like the utg ak-74, m14.
i have a UTG ak47, which i like, but from what i have noticed is that it does not work as well on semi as it does on auto, and a lack of repair parts.
and no neither one of us is looking to upgrade. neither one of us has played for very long, and a both looking at getting a new gun in that price range that has good fps.

We have a friend that got the echo M4 and it broke in like two weeks. But we think it is because he dry fired the shit out of it. I have had first hand experience with the utg AK and the utg MP5 plus all the research i did into them about a year ago when they came out. My Ak-47 Warhawk was an absolute piece of shit. Bad wiring, horrible hop-up, the mags sucked, and even when i got good mags they didnt work good. The mp5 i never really had problems with until i took it apart. But thats when i was starting to learn about airsoft guns. It was my first AEG ever, but once i put it back together and figured out what was wrong it was a very good gun. I upgraded it to 350 fps and put a promethus tightbore in it and it was a badass gun. But I had it for like a week before I sold it to buy the gun I have now. But there Again I am talking about last years gun models, not UTG's new ones. I dont know about them. Although I did hear that the spetnaz was actually good compared to the 47.
As for the M14... TRIPPS I HAD NO IDEA YOUR GUN WAS EVEN A UTG!?!? Dude, i totally thought it was a TM. It worked so well, is it stock or have you upgraded it? Thats freakin amazing.

Yep, UTG all the way baby! I had only put in new gears and bushings last weekend. Next step is the guarder FTK.
I hear the cyma line has stepped it up a notch. Their ak-74/slr105 clone is supposed to be bad ass...but thats just from a friend of a friend.
I've heard good things on the spetz, but I hate the gun personally! And I thought the utg ak-47 was a TM clone? Is that not true?

Yeah, they are TM clones, it still sucked like hell though. I traded a KWA G18c for mine, was using it while I was trying to figure out my Mp5's problem, and it was terrible. You could catch the bb's in mid-air.

There is no such thing as "white metal." I don't know who told you this lie, but i can assure you it is a lie. No where in any forum or site will you read anything about TM's having problems with their barrels. TM's are about the most reliable guns on the market (stock of course). So forget the lie about this supposed "white metal."

Maybe either a aluminum barrel or a high zinc china gearbox...but not in a TM.

Only the TM M4's have a barrel wobble. Mine did and I hated it. one of the reasons i sold the thing. But the barrel was good metal and the gun was seriously reliable. other than the barrel wobble it was a great gun. CA M4's have a one-piece outer barrel so there is no wobble, so i would recommend the CA of the TM.

My TM m4 had wobble, it is due to the plastic body. I got a metal barrell ring and a little gorrilla glue, and WALA! no more barrell wobble. The only thing I do not like about the gun. OH and BTW if you have not replace the gear shims in you TM, then do so. The only problem I have had out of my TM was that a plastic shit sheared in half, causing the gears to fall out of allignement, thus causing the rest of the gears to get eat up. No I know, if you get a TM, buy a bag of metal shims and save yourself a lot of hassle down the road.

You gotta mean the bushings Mongo. Not trying to be a meanie Mcdouche..it just made me go cross-eyed a couple times! ;D
Which reminds me, The Echo1 M4 has NO shims...it's just bushing on gears action, this means the gears will EVENTUALLY eat through the plastic bushings, having a catastrophic failure like Mongo talked about. So a re-shim job is recommended for a Echo1.
Oddly enough, They don't have any barrel wobble. The lug that the barrel ring mounts to is metal and extends partially down the upper body. It's like they fixed one problem and made another.

Echo 1 is alot better then utg. I know some one with a echo1 mp5 and it hits hard. I would save my $ and get a CA, TM are shitty but better than echo 1 in the fact that you can upgrade them. Echo 1 gear boxes are no openable .

Thats not true. TM's are good when connected to the right batter(not a 9.6v) and Echo 1s are openable. I have done it and you can get parts quite easily since all parts are interchangeble. TM are way better quality though i can assure you. CA's are actually worse quality that tm internals. But still pretty good. If you by a CA you can assure yourself that you will have a broken gears in no time flat. But CA's have a metal body so that makes up for the crappy gears.
