Hi All, Added a map of the Weaver Combat Ranch property with locations of some of the play areas. Am adding pix of these areas as I have time. Better/more pix as someone takes them. Any/everyone is invited to join the site. New ideas and suggestions welcome. Will try to get a PayPal link up so those who are members of the cashless society can donate and/or pay for meals prior to the games. Dave

That will be awesome, Sir. (I have that saw blade in my trunk for you on the 16th. I figured since I've got it with me photos could be foregone, unless you'd still like them).

Tom, am interested to see what kind it is but pix aren't necessary. I'll try to wait till the 16th. ;D Thanks! On another subject. Am gonna repeat part of a post from the Weaver Combat Ranch Blog here so maybe I'll get some feedback. Got a new version of the map working that is a bit easier to use. Try it out at : Weaver Combat Ranch Map and let me know what you think. Please note this sucker crashes the Mac OS X 10.3.9 Safari and the KDE Konqueror browsers. Crashes both of mine every time I click on a marker. Firefox, Internet Explorer (the latest version) and Opera work fine. Dave

Neat map! Is there a line drawing version with the points of interest marked, so I can study it before the next game and (hopefully) not get lost next time?

The map looks great Dave. It gives true perspective to the area. Any chance we could get the trails and stuff dotted in? Just to show how the trail network we are developing get you around the combat area? It would really help as far as getting a real feel for the area to folks that haven't been out.

Got the rest of the pix that I have right now put in, so everything but Bunker #1 has at least some pix. Will try to get out tomorrow and take some more pix of the work the crew did this past weekend and of the transport dollies I moved into the playing field. Boo, nothing yet that I know of but if you take a look at Topo Map of Weaver Combat Ranchyou can get a rough idea of the lay of the land. The red cross hair is at Little Round Top if that helps you any. The lake that it shows is what was there many years ago before the sink holes and beavers took it way. The dam should give you a idea of position too. HTH Mongo, am still trying to get a handle on the google maps api. What I have done so far is mostly stolen from other folks work. The trails will have to be written in cordinates and output as polygons or some such and I ain't quite there yet. If I can get with Chris and his GPS some day where we can walk them and plot each turn then I can try to put something together. Will keep slogging away at it till I get it or it gets me... Dave

Got lines on the map! ;D Already got some of the basic trails marked out just from guessing the locations. Putting the data in isn't that big a deal, so once I get the GPS positions I should be able to mark them all with no problem. Trails are marked in yellow and the Little Round Top side road in light green. Gonna try to get all the roads marked too so they will be easier to see on the map. Heading up to Little Round Top later today to see just how many trails yall have cut in and see if I can get a rough idea of where they are located. Plan to take the camera and get some finished (or closer to finished) pix of the bunkers and transport dolly locations. Later, Dave

Did you try refreshing the page? If so what browser are you using? I have tried it on Firefox 1.5 .0.7 and Opera 9.02 both under Linux and it displays fine after a refresh. My bad! Just tried it using IE under windows and the page is showing errors. Guess I'll see if I can find out what the errors are and if there is a way to fix them. Sorry about that. Should have checked before posting. If you want to look at it now, open the page in Firefox. It's free and a LOT less virus prone than IE. Thanks dave

Mongo, how does it look now? Think I found the problem. Had 4 extra commas in the code due to some cut and paste without brain engadged. Takes a bit to load but shows up fine on Cat's box under IE on XP.
Now to try to translate all the compass angles and distances for the trails around Little Round Top that I got this afternoon. You guys really went to town up there with the trails.

The Google API is good, but a bit wonky, from what I understand. I'm not sure how the bigger, badder, paid for APIs compare; but then, some of those cost a couple grand. ESRI, the biggest name in GIS software- which is what Google Earth is- is also pretty shittastic, but not from the user standpoint. I recommend sticking with points and lines for beginning GIS, as they're easiest. Polygons can get you into trouble.
Shapefiles and SDEs and Oracle 9.2, Oh My!

The site now has a REAL outhouse with a light for late night reading (or whatever) as well as fixture for a heat lamp (as soon as someone gets one (hint, hint) ) for those cold evenings, a roof to shed the water and from personal experience is fully functional. ;D Got more fuel today for the tractor so will try to haul another few loads of tires between now and game time. Will also try to get more pix of the new areas to update the ones on the map. Thanks to Mihel and Chris for all the work they did on Sunday. Things are really looking good out there on the playing fields! Dave
