Hey all
Just wanted to ask the general question, how do you guys feel about role playing in Asoft scenarios? I am considering doing some Heavy RP games, with a slew of NPC's and I just wondered if you guys want more or less of that kinda thing. I would like to get everyone's comments, suggestions.
This is important for when we get the town up and going, as it will give us the opportunity for Tournament style play. The OPFOR would be the same folks over and over, and if those playing act the roles well, it should be very interesting. Just wanted everyone's thoughts

Not much into Tournament style play but I think NPC add a good dimension to the story sometimes. Civilians that you cannot jsut shoot at will add something to an event also people you have to interact with on a level that doesn't involve just shooting the heck out of them adds some good depth. You may have to negotiate for help or information, offer aid, save a scientist, there are alot of possibilities and TBJ ussualy has a few in play at our larger OPs

I enjoy them. I like a little leadway in a game, now I like good old fashion shootem up too, but i enjoy the roleplay scenarios.

The idea of scientist, downed pilots, anything that talks and breathes, adds a variable to the game that I feel is missing sometimes. I feel it would be cool to do some executive assasination games, and let the Exec and guard detail RP.
Other RP options:\\
Sound- We have a PA system going in. No reason we can't pipe in any ambient noise we feel we need for a particular scenario. The soundtrack becomes a NPC at that point, adding artillery fire, or the constant rattle of MG fire will help the game.
Pyrotechnics- I would be interested in finding out the procedure for getting a "drama" type pyro license, not for big booms(PA will be fine for that) but flashes, pops, whistles and the such for show, or for calling in arty, whatever
Working computers in objective: Sounds crazy, but if we could get working computers in the various buildings and objectives, it would allow an entirely different form of command and control, briefing, mission assignment, code breaking, the list can go on forever. We should be able to get a WIFI signal to the dam, just have to go from there. Of course, this will be after we get power to the dam and beyond.
Props: We decided early on that except for a few fundamental structural differences, most of the buildings would look basically the same, with the differences coming from props. The gas station needs to look like a 2 bay small office gas station, the bar needs tables and chairs, and a bar, the jail has a lockup, and desk, etc. So if the weather won't damage it, and it exist, we need props. We thought about old furniture and stuff, but figured it would just make a bunch of critters some really nice homes, besides the effect of the weather, so we nixed that. However, we will eventually need old lamps, tables, chairs, TV's , etc for the houses and buildings. Just something to keep in mind.

Sounds very cool and who knows RP the zombies taking over everything hide some guns around in the houses and let us find them to live and get out also save other people who might have found some much needed ammo.... we could so do a Resident evil RP that would rock the balls.

I got a line on a few vietnam era field phones (the kind you hook up with wires). since they are in good condition with the packs and all....the guys is asking a little bit of $$ for the pair....but he has a few pair as I understand it.
NOW those would be cool to permanently hook up in the bunkers and etc....
But yes....getting info fromreal people (NPCs) is always cooler than reading it off a paper.

Character person here. Just don't use me as target practice. Information gathering scenarios are cool. The army hired me to act in hostage negotiation scenarios at Ft. McClellan(I was one of the hostages). Man, it was a blast!

npc's add alot to the game when they are used properly....you don't find alot of major events out west without them.alot of folks in this sport aren't used to having to interact with npc's in a game environment.i think having them would be a welcome change.also a good way to get friends that LARP or are in SCA out on the field.....SCA especially since they are in an immersed mind set to begin with....hint,hint Mongo..lol....seriously though ..they are good mainly because they would know how to stay in character for a whole event.it's just getting them to do something from the last 60 years that's an issue...lol... local college and community acting groups are also a good source as well....but hell, many of them are LARPs or SCA anyway. for the buildings...come up with list of some kind for each structure giving how its set up and what it needs..example... gas station...these are pretty much the same all over the world... 1 office with 1-2 desks,a short counter/sales area and a couple of extra chairs. 1 service bay, about 2-3 times the size of the office with 1 or 2 vehicles in it for "service". 1 island with 2-3 "gas pumps". these can either be mock ups or real old style mechanical pumps that there are a ton of out there at industrial surplus places. 1-2 small shed type out-buildings and a few dead cars in the back.. pic examples.... first off..just love this sign..lol...who can remember when gas was that low... old school US ones or they can be as simple as these Thai and Cambodian ones...but not as fun to fight through.. stores are pretty simple too.... counter at the front of the store with a few chairs behind it. several rows of shelves. rear storage rooms with outside access. ....they don't have to be very big..they aren't in most parts of the world.in fact in most 3rd world ares the local store can look like this... as for props...just concentrate on non-stuffed furniture...outdoor stuff is good...bars can be made by putting board tops on 55gal barrels...made this suggestion for a place in GA...lol...tables can be the smaller wood wire spools cut to the right hight.
