This rig came from www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=321487 in 5 days and it arrived this past Tuesday. It is not military surplus but on the other hand it is cheap, costing less then $40 delivered. Some of the video quality is blurred because i cant hold my hands still enough. I guess I should come up with some sort of objective multiple point rating scale for this review but I'm not going to, sorry. But what i will do is explain where I see quality and where it lacks.
the rig has as many as 13 pouches and is not modular. Each side has 5 pouches in the same arraignment but one of the medium size pouches has a divider inside. I placed a 2-way in one side. To me they appear to be for magazines. The both upper most pouches are also divided. Notice the pencil and highlighter. The two pouches on either side and the top pouch on the back have velcro tops. These two side pouches are the largest and can also be opened with snap buckles instead.
The back pouch has two zippers and a pull string and plunger clasp partition. This makes it great for holding a hydration reservoir. I have already placed mine inside but the rig does not come with it. Although, Roger's Outdoors is have a 20-40% off sale and was able to pick up a 2.0L bladder for less than $15.
Adjusting the straps and becoming comfortable is very easy and the pads are spongy and thick. There are four places to adjust the rig from, I imagine this is similar to many other harnesses and vests.
My main concern when buying this rig was the Flecktarn color patterns would not match up. I have placed and new and used surplus Flecktarn on either side to demonstrate how well they blend together. The rig is made of 100% polyester and is water resistant unlike authentic Flecktarn surplus (except for the gortex).
There is a slight reflection coming off the fabric but hopefully this will wear off or dull. Over all I'm very pleased with the match up between the camouflages.
I'm very happy considering the price in comparison to authentic Flecktarn rigs. I would have spent $20 on shipping to get the real stuff and another 50 to 150 on gear to replace all the functions this rigs provides. The quality of the camouflage is better than I had hoped and is water resistant. The hydration pouch accommodates for many sizes and allows for adjustment. While wearing, the rig feel comfortable and stays with me even when trying to make it shift. The pouches provide almost to much room for storage. I do think the rig could be a little bulky at times and I know I wont use all the space. It sits a little high on but that also might be just because of improper adjustment.
You might have noticed I have not discussed the 13th pouch. There is a secret pouch that i think could easily be modified into a cross draw holster for mid sized handgun.
this is my eh'hum!... airsoft gun. It shoots .45 inch "pellets" at around 820fps with factory 14.9g ammo. It stays at home.
Well, all things considered the vest is a great buy in my opinion and I hope any of you that wanted to know more about or had some questions are satisfied. Maybe when I find a really great buy on a GBB ill mod the secret pouch. ;D
