I received my first hate mail today, I thought I would share it with everyone:)
First, I will introduce myself. My name is Jessi and I attended OIJ for the first time this past weekend. I do believe we spoke. I am not part of SEA or any other organization in airsoft. Not part of DUCK, TTAT, TFAT, or anyone else. So my words are mine and mine only and will NOT be associated with either or any organization. I did play with DUCK, because my boyfriend is a DUCK member. His identity is of no importance to you. I did not acually play because the gun i used was sold and i am saving up for bigger better guns. Now to get to my point, I am HIGHLY pissed off of your negative remarks made about Captain and Dragon (the organizer and the assistant organizer). For all the hard work and time put into planning this event, these two men were spending lots of money into this that could be used for more needed things, time away from their families, and not to mention the tremendous amount of stress as to whether or not this event was even going to happen. That is why several things did not go as planned. If more people had signed up then there would have been more money to spend on things for this event, BUT people would not spread the word and try to get people to sign up. Even with the amount of people that did show up, they were still short about $600 that came out of Captain's pocket to assure this event would occur. They may not care anymore about this because it wasn't even until someone(from team DUCK mind you) thanked them for everything they have done that about 10 more people showed their gratitude. that is it, no others out of the 70 something people there showed there appreciation. You apparently did not pay attention to the briefing that you were do disappointed about. About your statement, " Besides, anyone with half a brain knows that if you stand at attention for more than a few minutes, there is a danger of folks passing out. " I was in my high school band and stood at attention for more than 2 hours at a time in 100 degree weather and NO ONE passed out. there is a safety called NOT LOCKING YOUR KNEES! In the military, which i am an army brat, you may stand at attention for 5+ hours getting chewed to pieces by your CO/LT/ or whoever and if you moved without permission, you will suffer for it. "If I had wanted to be yelled at and treated like a five year old, I would have gone and hung out with my son at school." You would get chewed out worse in the military, no matter what branch. You called yourself honorable, umm, you were one of the main ones people were complaining about not calling hits. I even saw you not call hits. There are no brochure because this is not a damn theme park. there were 80 people playing at the most. the organinzers and team DUCK is not your mom to hold your hand and lead you to where everything is. i.e. signing in (Dragon was yelling for people to sign up and barely anyone did so he gave up), maps (they were all over the front table, field intel (they said walk the field to get to know it, a map doesn't tell you everything, and several groups did walk the field), the waiver ( if you had not already gotten one, you should have asked about one). I wonder how many times you will get a "listing of objectives" when you are about to go to war. If you were so worried about actually meeting DUCK, then why did you not ask? There were several there, at least 6. The deal about this isn't milsim because high caps are allowed, ok, you make everyone no longer use highcaps. Then you won't have to worry about that now will we. The "Emplaced Weapons" were not emplaced because as soon a Captain arrived on site, he was being bogged down with people wanting him to fix guns or a swarm of them hanging on him like ants on a dead animal. Dragon was helping him as well as trying to complete some things on his own. NO TIME to put these weapons up. People were not at the Chrono because they hope that since you are playing an honor based game that you will do the honorable thing and chrono your gun and if it is firing hot then make it known to Captain. He is not a babysitter, he cannot be everywhere at once, he is not god like so many people act like they believe. Since you have so many suggestions of improvement, why don't you just take the OIJ series over, because unless someone does, it will cease to happen. Several DUCK members, as well as TFAT, are getting out of airsoft because of nieve no brain stupid speak before you know unappreciative jackasses such as yourself. If you are offended, good then i did my job. There are a few more things that i have something to say about, but i will not go on as i am sure you probably hoped i would to see what i would say. Captain and Dragon do not care about the article you wrote, but knowing how I have suffered and lost major time and money to help this event, I will NOT LET YOU SPEAK SUCH THINGS! And believe me, if you were in my spot, you would be just as pissed. Thank you for your time that I hope you took to read my bitching.
My Reply
Jessie,
Well, allow me to retort. I am entitled to my opinion. Promises were made. I hate it that you are upset about my opinion. Well, lots of people were upset about the way they were treated. I only stated the obvious, and I only said the things everyone else was saying. Now as to money. The site cost $1600 to rent for the weekend. I called and asked because we loved the site. If anyone lost money with a 45% markup from cost, then I cannot really feel sorry for them. What did we get for the 45% markup? Not much is what we got. You have to understand my perspective, though I doubt you will. You talk about stress. You talk about stress, you talk about money spent. Well, I had stress, a bunch of it, and as I see it, my team and I LOST over $500 bucks coming to your event. So please, save your commentary, because I already feel bad for the guys that lost money.
I did not care to be treated that way at the briefing. It was offensive, It was uncalled for, and I just have the guts to say what everyone else in that briefing was thinking. I know, I asked around. Why not pump everyone up? Why not welcome everyone to the event? Why not share information with the folks that paid money, spent time, effort and energy to be there? Why take the tone of, "Your here, this is what I hate and will do to kick you off site if I see you do this, or this, or this." You say I wrote a negative piece, I did. Hey, I am just Joe Blow, nothing special, why do you even CARE what I wrote. I am entitled to my opinion. Why have I received over 30 emails telling me I hit the nail right on the head? I wrote my perspective from the stance as a REPORTER. I do reviews of games all the time. You don't have to agree with me, you don't have to read what I write. You are not going to allow me to put out my opinion? You call me naive? You think I am the only person who traveled for hours only to be treated like a target for about 15 people in the know to participate in actual game scenario that was occurring? I talked to a guy from south Florida. He spent 7 hours on the road. He talked up the event to his friends and got them to come with him. Can you guess how he felt Saturday night? Do you think he and his friends were happy campers? Do you think they will ever be back?
Now, as to me not calling shots. That is pretty funny. Ask Haslinger and Dino about my play style. I came from an organization that fights with rattan weapons, in armor, full speed, no choreography, full contact. There are no refs, no one to call your blows, no one to arbitrate. I have on my wall awards that signify my commitment, and honor, in the field of martial combat. I have never been questioned in 18 years. I call my shots. Period. I get shot, I get shot. How come no one complained to me? How come one of the refs for the event told my cohort and I that at least some people played with honor, and he appreciated our gameplay?
You are making excuses for people who put themselves in a position of responsibility voluntarily, and then fell on their collective asses. I understand that you and yours want to blame someone for your own shortcomings, and I understand you would like for me to be quiet about and be a good little robot and not rock the boat. Sorry. I called it like I perceived it, and if you don't understand the concept, let me make it clear, perception is reality. The people that attended the event that did not know or understand the pressure and problems you were having only perceived arrogance and incompetence. As I stated, I had no real problem with gameplay. I had a blast while I was playing. As I said, if only the package I bought had been delivered. Then I would have made an honest POSITIVE report. No where else I have traveled to play at have I been treated the way I was treated at OIJ.
No here is the sad part. You lash out at me and focus you anger on me about the whole fiasco because you want to defend your friends. Hey, I understand that. You feel like I have aired all the dirty laundry of the event for the world to see. I didn't report that we were charged $15 over site cost. I think it is sad that you guys couldn't get enough people there to cover your cost. I mean, if the site is $1600 for the weekend, so that means you would only have to have 46 people there to break even on site cost. What other cost could you have incurred? No food, no real outlay on your part, no maps, no paper cost, nothing. If you guys came away to the negative, it is no one's fault but your own. It is easy to blame me for having an opinion than to blame no one but yourself. Should blame be assigned? No one forced SEA and DUCK to hold an event. No one forced them to advertise that it would occur in a certain manner. I am sure Captain and Dragon and others on Team Duck are nice guys. I just never saw that side of them. I feel bad for your members, I feel bad for the folks that lost money. I was one of them. So, to finish this off, because I actually have a life, family, job, let me say this to you. I will continue to call it like I see it. Team Duck or SEA wants to ban me from their events because I will tell the TRUTH about the event, fine. You have to understand, we have a game in two weeks here in Anniston, AL. We will have close to 40 people attending, arriving from Huntsville, Mobile, Birmingham, Chattanooga, parts of Georgia and various other small towns across the state. I have organized this event. I probably will not play in the event. It will cost me money, personally. We only charge a small field fee that goes to the field owner and a small food fee for those that want food. I am obligated to those folks I have invited to show them a good time. I will do so. I will "hold their hands", I will cherish them and tell them how much I appreciate them attending. All the folks on my team will do so also. I will brief them, I will give them a scenario, I will tell them their objectives. I will show my appreciation for the time, effort and money they are spending, and I will TELL them how much I appreciate them being there.
I will ask someone from the event to write an article on the event. I will publish it unedited. If you wish to attend, so you can see how it is done, then do so. You dared me to put my money were my mouth is, so here you go, tell everyone you know, because we will need the advertising. Our group, along with several other groups, WILL BE hosting a major OP in the State of Alabama in the next six months. Now, I am going to go post your letter on my site, under the title hate mail, for everyone to see. Since you "will not allow" me to state my opinion, I am going to publish your letter, and this reply all over the web.
I have managed to make people dislike me that don't even know me, and I am a cheater, and a butthole. How can I live with myself.
