i have a limited experience with airsoft because I have only owned one gun. I like my TM G3. Its nowhere perfect but its a winner and now that I have a c-mag for it use it as a light support weapon.
If I were to buy all new gear I would consider an AEG with a bull-pop design. They tend to have some of the longest barrels with a very compact footpath. This is a great way to strike a balance between field and CQB skirmishes without sacrafising barrel length. mateba

rugia please use propper gramer it is anoying the hell out of me!!! i like the bull-pups also, my favorite one is the FAMAS. who ever i talk to tells me that the AUG is a sniper, and most other people tell me it is an assault rifle. is it both or just one of the two?

The Aug is TOTTALLY an assault rifle. It's just that it has one of the longest internal barrel lengths for AEG's, it's highly accurate.

this isn't an airsoft gun but you get the picture. although this particular AUG has been modified the unmodified ones look very similar. notice the muzzle brake heavy barrel. you can see the mag well in the picture, its behind trigger indicating that the barrel runs 2/3 the length of the entire gun. I would like to make an AUG LMG but I don't know enough about barrel length and the effects it has on FPS, maybe later.

Bullpups no matter how much you train...are nowhere as fast as slappin an m4 mag. They are longer barrelled for sure, but that don't mean a thing if you're in the thick of it.

that is true! they have a big disadvantage with magazine access and winding hi-caps. I'm a little surprised a 500-800 auto winding mag is not commercially produced for the AUG. Its an old gun. That would be a great project to work on.

They make one for the Aug, you have to pre-order it from wgc. It's just a ak drum mag with a aug mag cut to fit on the top. Makes it hard as hell to move with.
And as far as the winding/changing mag part...you really do get used to it. I personally find the m4 awkward...but thats cause I started with a Aug!

How did you like it? I looked at the one from WGC and it is UGLY and they expect someone to put that on their sexy AUG. Not me! I checked out arniesairsoft, they have a project for a manual wind box mag but I got an idea. Ill open up my c-mag and see exactly how that works. If I ever get an AUG Ill check a high cap and try to automate it and possibly clamp it to another mag shell to make one. Ive read somewhere that the gears and turned by a hex bolt. That would be easy to mod to a LOW power motor (like a cheap screw driver). Did you ever open yours? Do you think that could work? RWC has several hi-caps converted to side by side auto-winders, they even have the winder stick out. here, www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/ProductDetail?prodID=14377. That makes me think that their motor is only turning what we would manually. Somewhere in the area of 2000rnds would be more than enough and could probably be pretty easy with an extra mag attached not to mention that it would be just as easy as reloading a hi-cap. What happened to your AUG? I know how this will probably sound, a little outlandish, but the real AUG has an optional 42rnd mag and I'm wondering how that conversion would fare. I doubt I would ever be able to get my hands on one. The conversion would look better as a unit plus and there would be a this massive clip hanging off the back. Maybe not, http://steyr_aug.homestead.com/Magazines.html, if a class 3 isn't required. $40 for a 42rnd mag, $35 for a hi-cap and $10 for a motor doesn't sound like a bad idea considering the $160+ beaut by Jet Customs. That thing is so ugly ;D. Have you ever seen a AUG HBAR barrel for airsoft? Ive seen the phantom kit but not an actual elongated "normal" barrel, at least for sale.

I still got my Aug (its my baby!). Your idea is pretty sound. The ak drum mag is just a high-cap with a motor hooked to it. I have only seen (other then the phantom kit ) is the CQB outer barrel. Trust me, it's HARD to use a Aug in CQB. You may have to set up some sort of gear set-up for the motor though. Hooking it directly to the hex-bolt would have the motor hanging way out in left field.
