I'm not going to waste your time by explaining the differences between an AEG, GBB, ECT. If you do not know what those terms mean...you're not even a new player yet...
Which gun to purchase? Who fucking cares. Here's the Vets truth, developed from years of listening, spending uncessary money, and fingering every model I can get my grubby lil hands on, ALL AIRSOFT GUNS SHOOT THE SAME. Buy for the way it looks. That's the only thing a gun is good for. Looks. Learn to move and you'll be the best player you can be.
What gear should I purchase? Whatever you want. Airsoft is, by nature, a giant fashion show. See whats in this fall, or hold on to those retro BDU's till they're cool again.
Should I start a team? NO. There are enough teams. Try joining one. Nothing feels better than being part of a team, that at the end of the day offers you everything they've got to keep you in the game.
Should I make tons of posts asking questions? NO. Listen by reading. If can't get your question answered, ask away, but if you whine you'll loose all respect from the community.
How do I get better then? If you just asked this, you didn't read the aforementioned point of advice. LISTEN by reading. When you're around others...ask to join their squad, or just sneak up behind them and follow them around. Eventually you'll learn something I promise.
Who is he to talk? I'm the asshole giving you the advice. When you can offer me some of value i'll either listen or find something better to do.
Follow this advice and I promise you'll be a better player...in fact you might get picked second to last.

I mean, would you really suggest someone buy a craptastic china clone rather than save their money and get an actual reliable gun ? My advice: SAVE YOUR MONEY. You can't be a tightfist and really play airsoft. I can say this b/c i have bought crappalicious guns (and got pwned) and have also saved up to buy the highest end guns (and i did the pwning). I have had friends nearly die of frustration because their guns were unreliable. SAVE YOUR MONEY. Buy a trusted brand. AND FOR PETE'S SAKE DO NOT OVER POWER YOUR STOCK GUN WITH A BIG BATTERY PEOPLE!!!!! IT STRIPS YOUR INTERNALS!!!!

I feel the most important thing is to play. Use a crappy gun, use a pistol, make a cannon, whatever, just come play. I started with a crappy gun. I bought better guns eventually. Why? Because I not want to be at a power or range disadvantage. How did I learn this? By getting the crap shot out of me. Best experience? Getting the crap shot out of me. No amount of studying or discussion will help you when three guys you had no idea where there start firing you up on the flanks, you own flanking element is engaged and cutoff, and you have 4 of your six guys in the spawn point. (Not making this up, happen last time I got to play) How the hell can anything I tell you on this forum help you in that situation? Can't. I will offer one word of advice, and I think this has been around for a few centuries:
NO OPERATIONAL PLAN SURVIVES CONTACT WITH THE ENEMY.
So, plan all you like, and then watch as my team mate Psycho crawls through a hundred yards of briars and thorns to shoot us all in the back, thus making your plan fall to tiny shards all around your feet.
Sorry, I am rambling now

it is also good to start out with a crappy gun because you can experiment with it more than an expensive AEG, lots of people that have went strait to the top of the line guns are too scared to mess around with the internals and thus making them spend money on repairs

Mongo, you get it. New players will soon. I guess the gun thing is a lesson learned only with time. But when you've been through as many as we have...you'll see the light.
If craptastic is all you can afford, and like the way it looks...then more power to you, it shoots the same.
And FYI...Steel City...let us know where to be, and as long as its legal...we'll be there...

i know but what im saying is, new people, dont buy a really good gun and expect to automatically be a good player. This comes with like everyone else stated, experience. I have nothing against the cheap china guns, i think they are stepping stones that get people into airsoft that normally wouldnt drop the $300 dollars on a whim. It gets them hooked. It is just best to stay away from certain china brands.
This is for all new people reading this post. If you have $100 and you want to get a src, or whatever, go for it. It will get you started. Hey if you like it, keep it until the insides explode. If you find you need more performance, u can always save up for a nicer gun. Just dont expect the $150 guns to perform or last as long as the $300 dollar guns. The worst thing to me is for a new player to get a china gun and then it arrive and it break two weeks later and then they hate airsoft for forever.

First hand experience My Friend Blake had a really good TM break b/c of this VERY GOOD ADVICE I think your best bet is to buy a gun that includes the battery. That way you know it will work ;D

it is best to just take the fuse out to allow more energy to get to the motor the fuse just weakens the gun.

no it is not best to remove the fuse, i dont know who told you that. Some instances if you have a really strong spring you might want to take the fuse out, but if you were to take a stock tokyo mauri and put a 9.6v battery in it, and then pull the fuse out, it would kill it faster. Rugia you easily find the right battery for you gun, because 8.4v usually go with stock guns, and 9.6v go with upgraded guns. Just call the company you are buying from and they will happily tell you what you need.

how can it kill something that isnt alive? In a stock gun it isnt wise to take it out the fuse too mutch power can burnout your motor, but in an upgraded gun it is wise to take it out.

Idon't understand the whole taking the fuse out thing I mean the fuse just helps regulate power doesn't it? wouldn't doing that burn out or overload the motor? Iwouldn't know these things but the fuse was blown out on Blake's gun.
