I have some general information for people looking into airsoft, i have been sending people to the website to take a look, so i just figured we ought to have some basic beginner info. This is mearly(sp?) a general guideline from what I know. Average prices and fps are what i thought were appropriate since there is a very vast range. Take it how you will:
3 Types of Guns: Electric, Spring, Gas
Electric Guns:
AEP: Automatic Electric Pistol: These are battery powered pistols that are semi or full auto. They usually shoot anywhere from 150-250FPS, depending on brand and quality. These guns are often equipped with a blowback feature. Prices can range anywhere from $20-$160 on average.
AEG: Automatic Electric Gun: These are battery powered full sized rifles that shoot around 250-320FPS in stock form. These are the most commonly used airsoft guns. Prices range from $150-$400 on average.
LPEG: Low Power Electric Guns: These are battery powered rifles that come in full sized versions as well as mini versions. They are usally semi-auto and fully automatic. They shoot anywhere from 150-200FPS. They range from $20-$80 on average.
Spring Guns:
Spring Pistols: Spring pistols are single action airsoft pistols. This means that you have to manually rack the slide back before each shot. These shoot anywhere from 150-200FPS. they range from $20-$40 on average.
Spring Rifles: These have the same concept as a spring pistol but they are full sized replicas for rifles. They usually shoot from 175-300FPS. They can range from $30-$150.
Sniper Rifles: These are usually the most expensive type of spring gun. They shoot anywhere from 300-450FPS right out of the box and up to 600FPS after upgrades. They generally range from $150-$350.
Gas Guns:
Gas Blow Backs: This group consist of gas guns that after every shot the bolt or slide, depending on the gun, recoils back loading another round into the chamber. These work very similar to real firearms. They can be either, pistols, sub-machine guns, or full sized rifles. They shoot anywhere from 250-350FPS for pistols and sub-machine guns, and around 450FPS for rifles. They can range from $90-$175, and around $400-$500 for rifles.
Gas Non-Blowbacks: These usually cost less then the blowbacks with the exception of rifles. These guns do not have the moving bolt or slide. They are usually consume less gas and are quieter. They shoot around the same FPS as the blowbacks. They can range from $30-$150. The rifles usually shoot anywhere from 450-600FPS and they can cost around $150-$600 dollars.
